Healthful Tips by Shanna

Burns- Apply Essential Oil of Lavender directly to the burn. Be sure to use pure Oil of Lavender. After roughly 15 minutes break open an Aloe Vera leaf and apply directly to burn. Continue applying Aloe Vera Leaf or a product I like called Emprizone a few times a day until healed.

Sunburn- Using either Apple Cider Vinegar or White Vinegar, apply directly to sunburn as soon as possible with a washcloth. Allow to soak into skin for 15 minutes or longer and then bathe.

Having trouble falling asleep? Place a few drops of your Lavender essential oil on your pillow case or if you prefer add to your bath water to help unwind from a tough day and breathe your worries away. Lavender is also great for headaches by placing a drop of oil on your temples.

Honey is a beneficial food to keep on hand. Not only can you sweeten your tea with it, but you can also apply it to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse off and you will be left with smooth, softer feeling skin that will be the talk of the town. This is great for problem skin, wounds, or burns. I personally like the easy facial that makes me feel pampered.

Colloidal Silver- This is a must in my household. At the first sign of a cold we take a dropper full 2 times a day to help ward off infection. It is also great used as a nasal spray for sinus issues. This natural antibacterial, antifungal product is great to use on cuts that may get infected. If there is an infection, we use it. Colloidal Silver has been used for hundreds of years safely and still proves to be worth more than its weight in gold, at least in my opinion.

Do you find yourself waking in the middle of the night unable to fall back to sleep? If you find that you can not stop your mind from racing, my favorite remedy for this is Coffee Cruda. It is a homeopathic remedy that literally quiets the mind. I find it to be a great way during stressful times to get a good night sleep and still be able to wake feeling refreshed. Unlike many sleep aids, this only works if this is the reason you cannot sleep and it does not leave you feeling groggy in the morning. Homeopathic medicine is one of the safest medicines one can take.

If you would like to learn more about Homeopathic Medicine or any remedies I would be happy to share my knowledge with you. Please let me know and we can set aside time to talk further.

Achieving Your Health Goals in 2008

With the first month of the year already past us, many are wondering where they have gone wrong with their New Year’s Resolutions. Statistics show the majority of us set unrealistic goals to achieve in the New Year. We say we will not eat sugar, we are going to exercise more, or we are going to loose 40 pounds by spring. While making the decision to set new goals is admirable, it will not help us attain them if we only state the end result without the follow through it takes to get there.

To achieve your goals you need to develop a plan, one that includes small steps that will translate into small successes all along the way. As an example, let’s focus on the goal of losing 40 pounds by April. It can be done but only if you are willing to make the lifestyle changes required to reach your goal. The first step is adding cardiovascular exercise equivalent to 30 minutes a day. If you belong to a gym, this could mean utilizing an elliptical machine, bicycle or treadmill. If you exercise at home, the addition of a brisk walk, bike ride or run are great ways to add cardiovascular exercise to your routine. You could even take 2-minute walks during TV commercials. Fifteen 2-minute walks per day fulfill the surgeon general’s exercise prescription.

The second step is watching what you eat. Limit your intake of sugar and high fat foods to decrease the calories and fat you take in each day. The key word here is limit. You do not need to deprive yourself of these foods, but you do need to be aware of your eating habits and reduce consumption of these specific foods. An easy alternative to sweet treats are eating raw nuts, particularly raw cashews, almonds, and Brazil nuts. Make sure they are raw and not roasted. Raw nuts are utilized as protein and are tasty and filling snacks between meals. They also help keep your blood sugar better stabilized, which helps to prevent the dreaded midday slump.

Exercise and food choices, however, are only part of the total equation. Proper nutritional supplements are required to keep your body functioning properly. Without these additional nutrients, all the work you are doing may not be as successful as you would like. It is proven that today’s foods, no matter how well we shop and eat, are deficient in essential nutrients. Vitamins, therefore, have been added to our food pyramid as necessary for better health. The next step to achieving your weight loss goal is to incorporate into your program a food matrix vitamin, an endocrine support supplement, and antioxidants to help your body recover from the work you are doing and to defend it from toxins you are exposed to everyday.
